Introduction

At Velvet Files, we truly value the natural nature of the products we use during our nail and skincare services. For this reason, we make a lot of our products in-house! Using essential oils and other natural ingredients, we create aromatic and healing skin care. Throughout this blog, explore which essential oils are most important to us and how we use them!

What Are Essential Oils?

According to Miriam Webster Dictionary, essential oils are defined as “any of a class of volatile oils that give plants their characteristic odors and are used especially in perfumes and flavorings, and for aromatherapy.”

Essential oils are most commonly used for their aromatherapy and topical healing characteristics. In our nail salon, we prefer to utilize non-toxic ingredients and this is why we prioritize the use of essential oils whenever possible.

Most Commonly Used Essential Oils

  1. Lavender
  2. Tea Tree
  3. Peppermint
  4. Lemon
  5. Eucalyptus
Holding essential oils (eucalyptus, lavender, and vanilla)

Our Favorites and Why We Use Them

Lemongrass

Our top contender, when it comes to essential oils, is lemongrass. It is commonly used in our soaks and scrubs.

Lemongrass acts as an antifungal ingredient to help prevent bacteria and other common foot and hand fungi from developing. It also has stress relieving properties and treats stomach issues!

Eucalyptus

To continue, eucalyptus is our second favorite essential oil! Eucalyptus is known for relieving stress most commonly due to its relaxing, aromatic fragrance. This is important to us as well and contributes to the relaxing atmosphere we provide during your services.

Also, we love eucalyptus because it can help to relieve tension in sore muscles and joints. This is why it is found in our hydrating balm used in both the Velvet Manicure and Pedicure.

Lastly, eucalyptus helps to disinfect any open wounds preventing infection. This is one of the reasons we recommend scheduling regular manicures and pedicures for nail health

Lime

Mostly found in our hydrating balm, lime essential oils contain properties that support the absorption of nutrients into the skin. It also can help to reduce the appearance of scarring and previous wounds. We occasionally add lime essential oils to our scrubs as well!

Vanilla

At our salon, we love vanilla essential oil for many reasons. Not only isn’t perfect for aromatherapy and combining with other natural fragrances, but it also helps with many other physical ailments.

As the majority of our clientele are women, we love finding anything to help support our customers. Vanilla is capable of relieving many premenstrual symptoms, such as cramping.

Vanilla essential oil is also great for cleansing the skin. Occasionally, you can find this essential oil in our foot soaps for pedicure services.

Basil

Commonly, basil essential oils are used to help stimulate, calm, and energize the mind aromatically.

At our nail salon, we use basil essential oil as an antifungal agent in our services. This oil also contains properties for brightening aged skin and relieving irritated and bumpy skin.

Lavender

While the most commonly used essential oil, lavender, is not our absolute favorite at Velvet Files, it is still very important to us.

From its stress relieving and sleep promoting properties to its ability to clean the skin, lavender will always be a staple when it comes to essential oils.

Rose

In the salon, we love to use rose essential oils as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, especially in our pedicures! Rose essential oils have been used in a 2015 study, showing that it helped relieve pain from postoperative children. Researchers believe that by inhaling the aromatic oil, their bodies created dopamine to help reduce their pain.

Similarly to vanilla essential oil, rose can also be used to help relieve the discomfort of a painful menstrual cycle.

Thyme

Lastly on our list of favorites is thyme! Thyme helps to calm contracted muscles. This helps relieve even more tension through the massage portion of your service at Velvet Files.

Thyme can also help increase blood flow and reduce the appearance of scarring, making it a great addition to your skincare routine if you struggle with dullness or scarring.

Common Ailments That Can Be Held By Essential Oils

  1. Stress
  2. Joint and muscle pain
  3. Bumpy skin
  4. PMS symptoms
  5. Sleep difficulties
